The season of glad tidings and goodwill officially began in Berkeley last week, with the switching on of the Cattle Country Christmas lights.
The honour of flicking the switch was bestowed upon Joshua Ocone, aged 7 years, from Thornbury. Joshua had earnt the right to VIP treatment at Cattle Country by entering and winning the recent colouring competition held in The Gazette. Although the rain came down, nothing was going to dampen the Christmas cheer, as Joshua had an exclusive trip on the Yuletide Express train down to Santa’s Grotto. One exclusive audience with Santa later, Joshua emerged with a Cattle Country good bag, a family season ticket to enjoy during 2010 and, of course, a direct request to Father Christmas for a Lego train come the big day of December 25th!
Later Joshua switched on the lights to the Cattle Country Christmas tree, surrounded by cheering Cattle Country visitors and staff. The afternoon was rounded off with warming drinks and mince pies. All agreed that Joshua did a splendid job – and that Christmas had officially begun!
The Cattle Country Santa’s Grotto is open every weekend in the run up to Christmas Day from 10 am – 4.00 pm, as well as December 21st, 22nd and 23rd
