Castle is officially open

Castle is officially open

22 Aug 2008

Charles Berkeley, heir to 12th Century Berkeley Castle, officially opened the new Kid's Berkeley castle, which sits just a mile from original Norman fortress. Although made of wood and not stone, the new castle is bound to be a hit with young visitors.

On Friday 22nd August Charles Berkeley and Tony Cullimore, owner of Cattle Country, each made a short speech to the assembled visitors before Charles cut the ribbon opening the Kids Berkeley Castle, a wooden play castle, designed to be explored, defended and climbed. Charles finished his speech by encouraging those watching the ceremony to “go on in and enjoy yourselves!”. The new castle is a mixture of walkways, bridges, towers and a towering central keep.

Charles said afterwards, “This is magnificent and what great fun to explore. It has everything our Castle has, walls, towers and difficult bits to climb! I do hope that after visiting Cattle Country the children will want to go on down the road and see the real Berkeley Castle.”
