Berkeley Vale Attractions

Berkeley Vale Attractions was set up in 2009 by a committed group of diverse independent attractions in the Berkeley Vale to promote tourism, education and entertainment. The five groups consisting of those below have worked closely together to share ideas and information to bring a wider audience into the area.

We offer a variety of opportunities to suit a broad spectrum of age groups and interests. Click on the logos below to find out more about each individual organisation.


 

Berkeley Castle

Berkeley Castle is perfect for a family day out. This stunning 12th century Norman Fortress is still the home of the Berkeley Family and has been transformed over the years into a beautiful home full of treasures.

The Castle and Gardens are open from Easter until October and the Butterfly House is open from May until September.

In addition the Castle promotes a programme of special events throughout the year and is a unique and distinguished venue to hire for special occasions. Check our website for opening times, prices and events.

 


Edward Jenner Museum

The Chantry is the Grade II* Listed former home of world renowned scientist Dr Edward Jenner (1749-1823). In 1796 from his elegant Queen Anne house, Jenner pioneered the first documented vaccination against smallpox; a landmark in modern science. His work has since saved millions of lives worldwide and was the precursor to modern vaccination.

The Chantry became a heritage attraction in 1985. Immerse yourself in this beautiful country home and explore where history was made.

 


 

Frampton Country Fair

One of the best one day shows in the country. It is a truly cracking family day out with something for everyone including the dog!

There are two display rings, dog shows and competitions, shooting, fishing, dog training, gardening and entertainment for all ages.

Over 400 trade stands offer retail therapy to suit every taste and wallet. A Farmers' Market with local producers and a super Native Breeds area are present â€“ come and meet the animals!

The Fair’s ethos is to celebrate, conserve and promote the countryside, remaining one of the last non-commercial country fairs true to its roots. Our proceeds are given to charities and good causes relating to the countryside and local area.

 


 

Slimbridge Wetland Centre

Boasting the world’s largest collection of swans, geese and ducks, Slimbridge Wetland Centre is set within 325 hectares against a spectacular Severn Estuary backdrop.
Land Rover rides and canoe safaris guarantee close encounters with a dazzling array of wetland wildlife and there’s lots for our young visitors to enjoy, including the Welly Boot Land wet play area.
The award winning visitor centre, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Slimbridge.

Here you can take a trip to the top of the Sloane Tower for a magnificent 360 degree view of the site, explore the Discovery Centre where you will discover our amphibian collection in Toad Hall, enjoy wildlife inspired films in the cinema and art in the gallery.

 


 

Kite’s Nest Cottage

Kite’s Nest is perfect as a quiet retreat away from the bustle of busy life. It is ideal for walkers or those who simply wish to chill out in the countryside. Despite this, it is within easy reach of many local tourist attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants.

The character of the original dwelling has been preserved, but the building has been extended in a similar vein with larger rooms in order to accommodate more guests. This three bedroom cottage sleeps six very comfortably. There are two double and two twin beds, and a cot can be supplied if needed. A big kitchen, equipped with a fridge, freezer and dishwasher, has picture windows looking out onto a very large garden. There is a cosy sitting room, bathroom complete with bath and shower and also an additional wet room.
